Betty Hunt Blackwelder, age 84 of Meadowbrook Drive passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at her residence. She was born December 3, 1935 in Cleveland County to the late John Lee and Kate Harrill Hunt. Mrs. Blackwelder was retried from Gaston County Schools where she taught fourth grade in Cherryville for 36 years. She was a graduate of Appalachian State University. Betty was a member of First Presbyterian Church and former leader of Young Minds.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Dick” Blackwelder; daughter, Catherine “Leigh” Young; and siblings, Bill Hunt, Jim Hunt, Frances Hunt, and Jane Hobbs.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Brian Young and wife, Kim of Nashville, TN, and Alison Young Matthews and husband, Trey of Mount Juliet, TN; son-in-law, Tim Young of Hillsborough; great grandchildren, Jackson Matthews, Roman Young; brothers, Joe Hunt and John Hunt; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Mrs. Blackwelder’s wishes, the family will hold private services and she will be laid to rest at Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery.
