Carroll Johnson

Carroll Lee Johnson, age 87 of Blair Wise Lane passed away Saturday, October 6, 2018 at his residence. He was born February 13, 1931 in Lincoln County to the late Augustus and Viola Plonk Johnson. Carroll was a retired Chief Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force. He also retired from the United States Postal Service in Gastonia. Carroll was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He saw a lot of the world during his service in the USAF, He was part of a refueling crew for the B-52s first non stop flight around the world. He and his crew restored a famous A1-E Skyraider during his tour in Viet-Nam. This plane is in the Air Force museum today. He was also a "Secret Santa" for many years. If anonymous gifts of food, clothing, or money showed up at your door, it was probably him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Heloise Ford.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 69 years, Sue Wise Johnson; son, Michael Johnson and Frances of Crouse; daughter, Katheryn Hartzell of Morganton; and a granddaughter, Georgia Johnson.

Services will be private.
