Charles Lee Capps Sr., age 83 of Delview Rd. passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017 at PruittHealth - Union Pointe in Monroe. He was born January 25, 1934 to the late James Leonard and Virginia Ethel Walker Capps. Charles was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a Korean War Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a member of American Legion Post #100. He retired after 36 years from Carolina Freight as a long line driver and enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Elliott Capps; children, James Michael Capps and Sharon Moore; brother, Frank Capps; and his beloved dog, Diesel.
Survivors include his children, J.R. Capps (Ann) of Blacksburg, Fonda Brittain (Joey) of Waco, Lisa Woody (David) of Walhalla, SC, and Cynthia Bowen (Steve) of Bessemer City; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by Cherryville American Legion Post #100. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Saturday following the service at the funeral home.
