Doris Kester Freeman, age 82 of E. Main St. passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Peak Resources in Shelby. She was born November 24, 1937 in Gaston County to the late Lawrence Hunter and Alice Eliza Carpenter Kester. She was a member of First Baptist Church and retried from Dallas Pillow. Doris was a proud member for over 20 years of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit #100. She loved to volunteer and serve her community. She also enjoyed shopping and going out to eat with friends and family. Doris loved baseball and was an avid Braves fan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, Don, and Jim Kester.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Freeman, Jr.; sons, Steve Garver and Tim Garver (Phyllis); stepsons, Jeff Freeman (Tonya) and Mark Freeman (Mary Ann); adopted daughter, Mary Swendsen; brothers, Larry, Bob, and Kenneth Kester; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held privately at First Baptist Church with burial to follow at City Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Doris will lie-in-state Saturday, May 30, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home.
