Freddie Manford Heavner, age 79, of Requa Road, Cherryville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family early Thursday morning, March 21, 2024, at his home. He was born on July 29, 1944, in Lincoln County to the late Phillip Heavner and Sarah Willa Brown Heavner. Freddie grew up in the Northbrook community. He was a graduate of Cherryville High School. Freddie was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for many years and was heavily involved with church activities; he played Santa Clause for the church Christmas celebration, was a Sunday School superintendent, and a former deacon. Freddie was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was stationed at Thule Air Base in Greenland. He was a truck driver with Carolina Freight for 33 years, where his handle was Freeloader. He eventually retired from ABF after numerous years of being a dedicated truck driver.
In addition to his parents, Freddie was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Delane Beam Heavner; daughter, Wendy Heavner Meadows; brothers, David Philip Heavner Jr. and Carl Heavner; infant sister, Ruby Heavner; and sisters, Shirley Heavner Carroll and Daisy Bell Heavner Kern.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Stephanie Hamrick and husband Wray; grandchildren, Lyndsey Richard and David, Cole Hamrick, and Caleb Roberts; brothers, Claude Heavner and Jenny, Pete Heavner, and Tommy Heavner and Patsy; brother-in-law and best friend, Larry Beam; and adopted fur baby, Lucy.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, March 25, 2024, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Cherryville with Rev. Keith Huss officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 PM, prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors given by Robins Air Force Base Honor Guard.
