Jack D. Davis, 605 Queens Road, Cherryville, N.C., age 95, died July 20, 2024, at his home. Jack was a native of Gaston County, N.C., the son of Forest and Mabel Browne Davis.
Jack retired from BB&T from the office in Cherryville, N.C. (formerly Cherryville National Bank). He was employed by the bank for 37 years, serving Cherryville National Bank as executive vice president. He may be better known by many with his duties of personal and commercial loans. He graduated from Cherryville High School and Lenoir Rhyne University with honors. Jack served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years during the Korean conflict and served Cherryville in civic affairs as president of the Cherryville Chamber of Commerce, Cherryville chairman of the United Way, president of the Cherryville Credit Bureau, president of the Optimist Club, member of the Gaston County Planning Board, and Mayor of Cherryville for 2 terms, 1995-1999. An active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, he served on many committees and church council. As chairman of the cemetery committee, he and fellow members completed the first listing inventory of persons buried in St. John’s “old cemetery”. As mayor of the City of Cherryville, he was especially concerned with economic development. Together with the Cherryville Economic Committee, a substantial number of businesses were brought to the Cherryville area. Jack was a member of the American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars in Cherryville.
Jack is survived by his wife, Helen Black Davis; stepdaughter, Sabrina Bowyer; nephews, Joel L. McGinnis & wife Cheryl, John Davis and wife, Marsha; and first cousins, Cara and Lisa Bornt Davis. Preceded in death by his father and mother, Forest and Mabel B. Davis; sister, Aura Ann Davis McGinnis; brother, Robert “Bob” Davis; stepson, Gregg Falls; and former wife, Jackie W. Davis.

The funeral service for Jack Davis will be at 3 PM on Tuesday July 23, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Cherryville with Pastor G. Scott Homesley officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the church from 1:30-2:45 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church Building Fund – 310 W. Church Street, P.O. Box 100, Cherryville N.C. 28021. Military honors will be observed.
