Jack Whitworth

Jack Lyday Whitworth, age 88 of Farmwood Dr. passed away Monday, August 6, 2018 at his residence. He was born May 9, 1930 in Gaston County to the late Howard and Grace Hill Whitworth. Jack was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he served as former president and life member of LMIM, council member, and mens Sunday school class teacher. He was also a member of the Dub Beam Sunday School class at First Baptist Church. Jack was a Korean War Veteran of the United States Army where he was stationed in Korea as a Tank Commander. He was a member of the Cherryville American Legion Post #100 where he served as past commander. He was also a member of Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505 A.F. & A.M. where he received his 50 year certificate. Jack enjoyed golf and played with Roberts Sr. tour group for many years. He was the last living member of ROMEOS (retired old men eating out), a group of close friends who shared a lot of time together. He was in construction and residential house designs for 55 years. Jack's greatest achievement in life was being Papa Jack to his beloved grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his son, John Whitworth; and grandson, Tyson Wolf.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Linda Quickel Whitworth; sons, Doug Whitworth and wife, Dawn and Hoke Whitworth and wife, Angela; daughters, Debbie Richie and Cathy Williams; sisters, Dorothy Bradley and Nancy Whitworth; grandchildren, Hoke Whitworth, Jr. (Traci), John Henry Whitworth, Emily Whitworth (fiancé, Chris), Molly Whitworth (Friend, Jon), Tanya Thompkins, Daniel Williams (Mindy), and Aimee Williams; great grandchildren, Shane Thompkins, Sophia Williams, Brady Cole Whitworth, Savannah Rose Williams; and his loving companion and dog, B.J.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 3:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Robert Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #100. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 to 2:30 PM prior to the service in the church sanctuary.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Lincoln County for their compassionate care during Jack's illness and his sons, Doug and Hoke and their wives for the many hours of their loving care and devotion to their father.
