James Jenkins

February 24, 1943 — January 10, 2018

James "Lester" Jenkins, age 74 of Eaker Circle passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Carolina Healthcare Systems Cleveland. He was born February 24, 1943 in Gaston County to the late Cecil Ross Jenkins Sr. and Martha Mae McGinnis Jenkins. He was a member of First Baptist Church and had attended Second Baptist Church. Lester graduated from Appalachian State and retired after 35 years with Gaston County Schools as a Science and Math teacher. He loved sports and enjoyed coaching football, basketball, and golf. Lester adored his grandchildren and cherished spending time with them.

Survivors include his son, Scott Jenkins and wife, Suzanne of Cherryville; grandchildren, Taryn and Maddie; mother of his son, Jane Osborne Jenkins of Cherryville; brother, Cecil R. Jenkins Jr. and wife, Sonia of Concord; sister, Cathy Nesheim and husband, Scott of Gastonia; friends, Linda Wacaster, Randy Jenks, Gary Wyont, and Larry Montgomery; and numerous special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Lail and Rev. Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services.
