"J.D." Gaston

John David "J.D." Gaston age, 91 of Cherryville passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Carolina Care Health and Rehabilitation. He was born November 2, 1925 in Caldwell County to the late James Houze Gaston Sr. and Rebecca Edwards Gaston. J.D. was a member of First United Methodist Church. He attended and graduated from the Granite Falls Schools. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of American Legion Post #100. J.D. was employed for a number of years at Burlington Industries before retiring from Doran Mills in Cherryville. He enjoyed dancing and going to the beach.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Gaston Jr. and Ed Gaston.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Fisher Gaston; daughters, Jan Fandrei and husband, Dennis of Vienna, VA and June Alyce Gaston of Colorado Springs, CO; granddaughter, Megan Rogers and husband, Seth of Brooklyn, NY; great grandchildren, Riley and Emmett Rogers; and sister, Frances Raney of Hickory.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Collins, D.Min. officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends and have a reception following the service at the church.
