Jerry Helms

Jerry Edwin Helms, age 80, of Delview Rd., passed away Tuesday December 3, 2019 at home. He was born May 31, 1939 in Gaston County to the late Augustus and Ruth Crowder Helms. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles A. Helms, and Mickey Helms.

Jerry was a graduate of the North Carolina School for the Deaf. He was very athletic and enjoyed playing many sports, including football, basketball, and wrestling. In 2002, Jerry was inducted in the North Carolina School of the Deaf Football Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Rodney and Joanne Helms; Nephews, Brad Helms and wife, Carla, and Chris Helms and wife, Teresa; great-nephew, Adam Helms and fiancé, Marlee Boston.

A Celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at 2PM Friday December 6, 2019 at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Ken Gibson officiating. Mrs. Cathy Dixon will be signing for the hearing impaired.

His family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be private.
