Mr. Jimmy Maurice “Jim” Beam, 73 of Depot Street, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2019 at his home in Gaston County. He was born January 15, 1946 in Lincoln County to the late William Maurice and Nell George Beam.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Rathburn Beam.
Jim was retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections and was a member of St John’s Lutheran Church. He loved his late wife Barbara and his dog, Babs. Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing and was also the owner of Beam’s Bait & Tackle which he ran for many years. Beam’s Bait and Tackle was known for having “Joe the talking Crow” and “Susie the Lab”. He also played the guitar and the drums and was a member of The Rejuns Band, The Bustin Loose Band, and Stepin Up Band.
Jim is survived by his step-son, Phillip Charles Rice of Shelby; his faithful companion, Babs; Cousins: Luandra George McNeely and husband, Brent, of Cherryville, Phyllis Whitesides and husband, Freddie, of Cherryville; Greg Keaton and wife, Lynn, of Cherryville and Wendy George, of Gastonia; He is also survived by numerous other relatives
A graveside service will be held Sunday September 15, 2019 at 3:00 pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery with the Rev Zack Christy officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
