Laura Daphene Reid Allran, age 84, of Misty Harbor Circle, passed away Monday, March 22, 2021 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. She was born November 5, 1936 in Gaston County to the late Everette Reid, Sr. and the late Annabelle Featherstone Reid.
Laura grew up in Lowell, North Carolina and sang solos in the church choir. She also played the saxophone. She was an avid reader (her entire home was lined with bookshelves with stacks and stacks of books. Laura loved birds, flowers, and trees. She was an amazing lady who had a sense of beauty and elegance. She was very interested in researching her family history and genealogy. Early in her career, Laura did student teaching in California. She also taught biology for 30 years (she started at Hunter Huss High School). She had a great memory for her students, even as far back as the 1960’s. Her former students remember her as either their favorite teacher – or the hardest class they had.
She was preceded in death by her former Husband, Charles F. Allran Sr.; siblings, Everette Reid Jr., Wayne Reid, and Carolyn Reid Starnes.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, James Reid Allran of Cramerton, Charles Forest Allran Jr. (Angela Moore) of Lexington, KY, John Wesley Allran (Shannon Joyner) of Sanford, and Susan Allran Carpenter (Shane) of Gastonia; sister, Annette Reid Carpenter; grandchildren, Zachary, Madison, Olivia, Sydney, Aiden, and Emersen Allran.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday March 28, 2021 at Carpenter-Porter Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Leonard Bumgardner officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:00 PM prior to the service at funeral home.
Burial will be private.
