Marelene Childers

Marelene Downey Childers, age 79 of Mary's Grove Rd. passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Peak Resources. She was born May 7, 1938 in Gaston County to the late James "Willie" and Hattie Hoyle Downey. She was a faithful member of Mary's Grove United Methodist Church. After graduating from Kings Mountain High School, she went to work for Dr. Paige, then Gamble, and retired from Kingspoint. She loved animals, especially cats. Marelene enjoyed going on walks, loved roses, and was a talented singer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Arlan Downey and Jimmy Downey; and sisters, Joyce Buckner, Joan Smith, and Barbara Black.

Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Sam "Bud" Childers; brothers, Buck Downey and wife, Shirley, and Butch Downey and wife, Diane; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Mary's Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Alice Day officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 to 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
