Margaret Mitchell

Margaret Sue Smith Mitchell, age 81, of Cherryville, passed away on Wednesday July 3, 2019 at Carolina Care of Cherryville. She was born January 29, 1938 in Buncombe County to the late Millard Lee and Sarah Mae Creasman Smith.

Margaret was a member of First Baptist Church of Cherryville where she taught children’s Sunday school during the 70’s, she was known as Margaret Wright at that time. She also sang in the choir. Margaret was a wonderful seamstress and worked as a CNA for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Mitchell; brothers, Kenneth Smith, and Jessie Smith; sisters, Mary Barnwell, and Lois Bartlet.

Left to cherish her memories are her children; Deena W. Rogers and husband Keith of Vale, Sandra W. Smith and husband Bert of El Paso TX, and Margo Mitchell of Rural Hall; sisters, Ella Allen, and Ruth Wilson; sister-in-law Edna Smith; grandchildren, Stephanie Cunningham, Jennifer Cunningham, Harold Smith, Denise Rogers, and David Rogers; 12 great-grandchildren.

Margaret’s homegoing celebration will be held at 4 PM Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Shortridge officiating. Her family will receive friends from 3 to 3:45 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be held at 11 AM Monday, July 8, 2019 at Iredell Memorial Gardens, 2304 Shelton Ave, Statesville, NC.
