Mary Pope

Mary Elizabeth Trammell Pope, 88, of Lewittes Rd., formerly of Cherryville, died July 21, 2017 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. She was born in Gaston County July 12, 1929 to the late Andrew and Lillian Lee Wylie Trammell. She was a retired spinner from the Dora Yarn Mill and was a Baptist.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Harlan Pope in 1967; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; brothers, Grady, Roy, Luther, and Fred Trammell; and sisters, Matonia Watson, Lillian Costner, Betty Ann Hull, and Patsy Gagus.

Survivors include her children, Cindy Payung (Richard) of Taylorsville, Peggy Ann Travis (Ronnie) of Claremont, and David Daniel Pope (Joyce) of Hickory; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 2:00 PM Carpenter-Porter Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Paul Schronce officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday at the funeral home from 1:00 to 1:45 PM and at other times at the home.
