Press Lingerfelt

Press Lingerfelt Jr. age 81, of E. Academy St. passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Wendover Hospice House. He was born December 9, 1936 in Gaston County to the late Preston Alton and Winnie Huss Lingerfelt. Press was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He retired from Carolina Freight after 27 years of service. He was a United States Navy Veteran and member of Cherryville American Legion Post # 100. Press was also a member of the Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505 A.F. & A.M., Eastern Star (former Worthy Patron), and a Shriner. He could always be found at a baseball or basketball game as he loved all sports and was a former member of the Booster Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Hugh and Kelly Lingerfelt and sisters, Betty McGinnis and Sue Helms.

Survivors include his children, Denise Johnson (Jamie), Barry Lingerfelt (Susan), and Lita Tidwell (Mick Varner); grandchildren, Brooke Lovelace, Jimmy Johnson, Preston Lingerfelt, Lindsey Lingerfelt, Ashton Ferrell (Seth), Ansley Tidwell, and Will Varner; great grandchildren, Harper Lovelace and Grayson Ferrell; and special friend, Rick Jackson.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 25, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Key officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post #100 Honor Guard and Masonic Rites conducted by Masonic Lodge #505. Family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Barry and Susan, 421 Roy Eaker Rd.
