Ralph Hayes

Ralph Jerry "Mutt" Hayes, age 75 of Eaker Dr. passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 at his residence. He was born September 16, 1941 in Gaston County to the late Ralph Malcolm and Lois Jeanette Huss Hayes. Jerry was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was a 1960 graduate of Cherryville High School and retired after 35 years as warehouse supervisor with Carolina Freight. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and American Legion Baseball. He found great pleasure in his Datsun 280Z. Mutt lived in a house divided, where he pulled for Duke and his wife pulled for Carolina.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Bennett Hayes; children, Jeff Hayes (Alison) of Cherryville, Coleman Hayes (Kathy Morelock) of Stone Mountain, GA, Ashley Hayes Goodson (Kevin) of Newton, Jeff Wright (Lisa) of Cherryville, and Lisa McBride (Daniel) of Cherryville; brother, Frankie "Doodle" Hayes (Josephine) of Cherryville; sister, Barbara Edwards (Harold) of Lincolnton; grandchildren, A.J. Hayes, Ben Hayes, Addison Goodson, Amberly Barnes, Cameron Wright, Mason McBride, Landyn McBride, and Bryson McBride; and great grandchild, Aurora Tirado.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 2:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Ben Kifer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12:00 to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Saints Hall at the church.
