Sue Helms

Sue Lingerfelt Helms, age 90 of Eaker Circle passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Carolinas Healthcare System - Cleveland. She was born July 4, 1926 in Gaston County to the late Preston Alton and Winnie Huss Lingerfelt. She was a member of First Baptist Church and retired Head Chef and Cafeteria Manager at Carolina Care Center. She was an artist who was very talented with painting. She enjoyed working puzzles and visiting with friends. Mrs. Helms was a wonderful cook and adored her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Junious Clyde Helms; sister, Betty McGinnis; and brothers, Hugh Lingerfelt and Kelly Lingerfelt.

Survivors include her daughter, Diana Helms Beam and husband, H.L. of Cherryville; sons, J.C. Helms and wife, Diane of Shelby and Monty Helms and wife, Pat of Crouse; brother, Preston Lingerfelt of Cherryville; grandchildren, Angela Beam Walker and husband, Reggie of Cherryville, Ashley Beam Long and husband, Preston of Cherryville, Bryan Helms and wife, Nicole of Shelby, Amanda Helms Myers and husband, David of Chantilly, VA, Amy Helms of Crouse, and Angela Rossman of Crouse; and ten great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 2:00PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Leonard Bumgardner and Rev. Wayne Key officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at her home.
